On Tuesday, hackers attacked Westminster by stealing British Leader of the House of Commons Lucy Powell’s verified X account in an effort to promote a fake crypto token known as the” House of Commons Coin ( HCC)”.

The affected account later claimed the HCC coin was” a community-driven electronic money bringing people’s power to the blockchain,” and that it was followed by roughly 70, 000 people.

After Powell’s department confirmed the violation and secured the accounts, the content, which featured the official House of Commons brand, were swiftly removed.

The Labour minister’s spokesperson told that” Steps were taken immediately to secure the profile and reduce false content.”

has reached out to Lucy Powell and the Commons for post, and it will update this article if they respond.

Hackers aim to hack into famous people.

The exploit raises questions about a growing trend of cybercriminals pursuing public figures in an effort to legitimize hastily created con currencies.

The bad stars use fake accounts to post bright, community-oriented coins, which are frequently fabricated in hours, before trying to profit from the confused buying before the posts are removed.

Numerous well-known accounts have been used in recent times to encourage phony crypto projects.

Earlier this month, Brazilian senator José Luis Espert, a part of President Javier Milei’s party, saw his account compromised on X, previously Online.

The launch of”$ LIBRA V2,” which was described as” a project aimed at boosting the Argentine economy,” was announced in a post.

The schedule raised eyebrows because it happened just days after Milei himself promoted the initial LIBRA coin, which rose in value before brilliantly falling, leaving many buyers burned and causing a wave of people backlash.

Espert’s partner and consultant later confirmed the account was hacked, and a subsequent video from the legislator placed the blame on a coordinated effort to destroy the government.

Former Vice President Leni Robredo’s profile was also cheated in the Philippines in February to advance Solana.

Robredo’s hacked messages made claims that she supported a” good launch” and that she had to act in response to what she saw on Twitter.

She wrote later on Facebook,” Please ignore all content while I am trying to regain command of the accounts.”

These are just the most recent instances of a string of attacks that rely on political figures ‘ perceived authority and credibility to deceive people and turn investment into pointless currencies.

In a” planned social engineering attack,” thieves seized control of some of America’s most powerful accounts, including those of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and others, in July 2020.

Roughly similar messages were sent by the affected accounts, promising to twice any Cryptocurrency sent to a budget address.

Hackers broke into a Twitter account used to advertise an American national relief fund in September 2020 and demanded Ethereum-based charitable donations. Online confirmed that there was no connection to any reasonable fundraising effort. The comments were immediately deleted.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw his Twitter profile hacked just over a year later, in December of that year, recently displaying a message that India had adopted Cryptocurrency as legal tender and was handing out tokens to citizens. The message was removed and the bill was secured.
