Sam Bankman-Fried has been moved to a notoriously brutal incarceration in Southern California by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
According to a BOP criminal finder, the fallen chairman of the FTX exchange  has been incarcerated at a moderate safety facility in Victorville, California, about two hours north of Los Angeles, as of Wednesday.
In one of the country’s almost 250-year history, Bankman-Fried was given a 25-year sentence for defrauding customers in November 2023, which was regarded as one of the most significant financial crimes ever committed in the country.
Bankman-Fried spent two weeks at an Oklahoma Transfer Center before being transferred to the Victorville Medium II FCI. He spent more than 18 months in Brooklyn, New York, at the Metropolitan Detention Center ( MDC ).
A federal prison expert, Christopher Zoukis, told last month that medium-security prisons where prisoners who are serving longer sentences are often found to have lower quality of life and higher risk of violence than lower protection options.
According to Zoukis, West Coast prison “tend to be a bit harder.”
He claimed that there are much more group presence and prison elections than in the East Coast or mid-Atlantic regions.
Victorville, which is occasionally referred to as” Victimville” in online groups, was described as” a very political yard where inmates must be part of a racially-oriented car to stay,” according to a website provided by Zoukis’s consulting firm. An inmate was quoted by the online paage as saying” a car is necessary for individual protection.”
A” car” in prison slang refers to a group or team of prisoners who band together for protection and solidarity based on common traits, such as race, geographic origin, or gang affiliation.
One respondent noted that “fights are normal, and violence are no uncommon,” while adding that there is” a substantial level of violence at FCI Victorville , Medium II , jail.”
In a 2013 affair, three prison inmates were found guilty of second-degree death in the beating death of another criminal at the center.
In 2017, an inmate was accused of attempted murder for attempting to kill a governor by stabming him with a shank, which required more than 80 items, and two other assaults occurred in separate incidents after in the year.
One of three services in Victorville, the moderate protection prison, has 1, 434 residents, according to BOP.
Individuals can only have two, three, and four-person tissues. Mohamed Osman Mohamud, one of the most well-known residents in the Victorville Medium II, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2013 for attempting to ignite a car bomb at a Portland yearly Christmas tree lights service.
After a Manhattan jury found him guilty on seven works of scams and crime, Bankman-Fried was sentenced and given his full sentence. He continues to fight his innocence even to this day, saying,” I don’t think I’m a criminal,” as he pursues and attempts to appeal his judgment.
He may have access to an electrical law library. He will also be able to play baseball, leatherworking, art, and soccer. Additionally, the prison offers Microsoft 2010 programs as part of its educational options.
