After abducting and brutalizing a guy in an attempt to get hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of crypto assets, a group of seven American men have been imprisoned for a total of 76 years.
The unnamed victim was abducted from his house in Irlam, Greater Manchester, in December, according to a document from the local authorities, before being violently taken to a local property with a carrier over his head.
The victim was therefore tucked into a base and struck by a man, causing bruising and burn marks. Police eventually seized a working weapons, three rounds of ammunition, an imitation firearm, an air revolver, knives, foods cleavers, a steel ball pitcher, a knife, and a nail from the scene.
When the authorities arrived at the scene after receiving an anonymous phone reporting concerns about the welfare of the property, a man was seen running away from the address, later identified as Karl Johnson.
The group of men allegedly made threats to the target on numerous occasions throughout 2023 to give them the keys to his substantial crypto portfolio, which is thought to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The wave of attacks started in January 2023, and over the course of five more incidents, the sufferer was assaulted with weapons and knives, locked in a closet, and subjected to morphine-related assaults. The victim had already paid the criminals over$ 124, 250 ( £100, 000 ) in the run-up to the ultimate incident.
A man named Jonathan Newns was matched by a criminal analysis of a revolver and weapons that police seized from the field of the last kidnapping. He was jailed for 20 times for two counts of attempted assault, two counts of false imprisonment, theft, and ownership of a prohibited weapons.
Another gentleman, David Povey, was jailed for 20 years for assault, theft, false prison, and attempted robbery. The other five people who participated in the line of crimes received sentences ranging from two to fourteen years.
How the crooks learned about the murderer’s possession of crypto was not provided in the police report.
There have been a number of instances of criminals attacking big bitcoin holders both domestically and abroad in recent years.
A party attempting to get a British person to move his bitcoin holdings threatened him with a knife in his own house in the town of Blantyre, near Glasgow, in March 2020.
