The legitimate defense of Alexey Pertsev, the main developer of Tornado Cash, will receive$ 1.25 million from the EthereumEthereum Foundation.

In a Wednesday article on X, formerly known as Twitter, the non-profit said that writing code was” hardly a crime”, and posted a link for those wanting to add funds.

One of the principal designers of the Tornado Cash application is Pertsev, a gold mixer that the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned in 2022 because it claimed thieves were using it to launder money.

In 2022, Dutch feds arrested Netherlands-based Pertsev and hit the Russian federal with money fraud claims.

A jury found Pertsev guilty of laundering$ 1.2 billion in illegal property after a Dutch judge at the S-Hertogenbosch judge last season ruled that Tornado Cash was “intended for thieves.” He was sentenced to 64 months in prison.

Pertsev has since been placed under house arrest while he awaits an charm.
