According to the Department of Justice, billions of dollars in stolen from Bitfinex may be returned to the system.

In a court papers filed Tuesday, the U. S. authorities said that the stolen currencies may go back to the change as there are no “victims” in the case.

Hackers took nearly 120, 000 Bitcoin—today worth nearly$ 12 billion —and other digital tokens from the exchange in the hack.

After being found guilty of swiping the cash, Ilya Lichtenstein received a 60-month sentence for money laundering next year. His wife, singer and social media personality Holly” Razzlekhan” Morgan, was differently convicted of helping to dirty the money, and sentenced to 18 months for the offense.

Bitfinex “generalized” the losses to all customers, sharing the effects of the fraud, and created a payment plan that included providing them with cryptocurrencies that could be exchanged for shares in the company or for U.S. dollars. The trade has stated that it believes that its customers have been indemnified throughout the process, though some customers have refrained from doing so, especially given the surge in Bitcoin value in recent years.

In the U. S. government’s sight, however, there are no certain subjects.

” For the following reasons, there is no’ target’ for the particular acts of faith in this proceeding”, the processing reads.

It added that not all of the crypto may be retrieved expected to” the complexity of the fraud purchases”, and that” third-party secondary forfeit moving” was taking place to deal with those assets.

A full of 94, 643 Cryptocurrency will be returned to Bitfinex. That’s$ 9.3 billion in “digital gold” at today’s prices.

Due to a safety issue with the bank’s protection surrounding multi-signature wallets, hackers gained keep of the Bitfinex crypto. The Department of Justice reported last year that Lictenstein and Morgan therefore used superior laundering techniques to cover their tracks, especially by using crypto mixing services.

Morgan, who is set to record to jail this quarter, hasn’t let prison time keep her up from her song job: Earlier this month, the singer released a song video titled” Razzlekhan vs. The United States” —and even told&nbsp, Decrypt&nbsp, that the song was dedicated to “misfits” like herself.
