OpenAI recently made a major improvement to ChatGPT’s storage capabilities, enabling the AI to guide a user’s full conversation history to produce more personal responses. The feature is a move toward more personal AI systems, which will first be available to OpenAI’s Pro rank paying customers.
” ChatGPT’s memory has greatly improved; it now has access to all of your past conversations”! Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, made the announcement on X. This is a surprisingly excellent feature from Imo, and it raises a significant topic for our interest: AI systems that become incredibly important and personalized after you complete your life.
Chatgpt’s memory has greatly improved; it now has references to all of your previous meetings!

The enhancement is already quite nice and exact, going beyond ChatGPT’s earlier memory function, which allowed users to manually conserve specific information. The system can now automatically adjust its actions based on a person’s demonstrated choices, writing style, and recurring questions by extracting perspective from any previous discussion.
Users have the option to opt out of the memory function completely or use temporary conversations that won’t affect or draw from the state’s memory banks, according to OpenAI.
” Just request in chat if you want to change what ChatGPT knows about you,” according to OpenAI in its statement.
The feature is appropriate at a time when AI companies are rushing to improve their tools by processing a lot more information and becoming more specific. Imagine being able to trade your fog of AI interactions to a brand-new humanoid robot helper who did “know” you as soon as it starts up. ( Or maybe don’t. )
The upgrade is intended to improve the relationship between the consumer and AI, and it goes a step further than OpenAI did with GPT-4.5, a model designed to be more effective and have a more organic conversational style.
In its news thread, OpenAI stated that “new discussions normally build upon what it already knows about you, making relationships feel better and truly tailored to you.”
Altman made hints about the news earlier now. Because we are launching a new element that has given me so much anticipation, I wake up early once a year and find it difficult to fall asleep. Now is one of those days,”!
Fans speculated about possible new models or capabilities after reading his mysterious concept. Altman refuted Altman’s suggestion that OpenAI may be releasing a new GPT model, similar to the “o4-mini,” with some internet stores reporting that it might even be a new model. However, Altman responded by saying that “quasars are very bright things” when a developer made an ad for the possibility of expanding the token context window on OpenAI to 1 million tokens ( also known as Project Quasar ).
The model may be able to process all the information users have previously stored in the future as a result of a significant increase in the token context handling capabilities in addition to some potent RAG ( retrieval augmented generation ) tools.
The concept can then reference chat history, according to an email shared by OpenAI with , even though they are handled differently from memories. ” Referring talk story allows ChatGPT to adjust the context of previous conversations to your tone, ambitions, interests, or other recurring themes. This changes over time, and it is not stored in or displayed in settings the same way saved memories are,” the email noted.
Later in the year, Plus subscribers will also be able to upgrade their memory. People in a number of European regions won’t typically be able to access them, probably because of the region’s stringent privacy laws, including those in the European Economic Area, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
Users of Team, Enterprise, and Education will be able to access the enhanced memory features within” a few weeks,” according to OpenAI.
Prior to this expansion, ChatGPT’s existing memory capabilities were already substantial. We requested ChatGPT to create user profiles based on prior interactions, and the system was able to find jobs, personality traits, relationships, and occasionally even sensitive information shared in previous conversations. Despite the information coming from earlier chats, it is still unable to refer to previous events, which is the new update being released today.
OpenAI hasn’t specified how long ChatGPT will keep conversation history intact or how much it will use that information to create user profiles. The temporary chat option offers a way for users to interact with the AI without influencing its expanding understanding of their preferences and behaviors.
