Illuvium, an Ethereum games franchise, has undergone a restructuring, leading to layoffs as well as some of the core contributors choosing to take pay cuts or get their wages directly from the gaming IP.
The reduction comes after Illuvium released a pair of linked sports last year—Overworld, Arena, and Zero—that covered varying styles. Despite its idealistic vision, the group’s reaction wasn’t largely beneficial following years of development.
In December, co-founder Kieran Warwick admitted that” problems” about the movie’s play were true and that items had to change. Part of this included that Illuvium had” significantly” reduced its costs via capping wages at$ 85, 000, among other changes.
However, Warwick claimed this week that more significant reduces had to be made.
In a statement on Tuesday, Warwick said,” We made the difficult decision to restructure our core contributor team to bring our monthly burn rate closer to$ 500, 000.” We want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has been affected by these modifications.
The statement on X ( formerly Twitter ) further explains that some employees have “generously offered” to take pay cuts, while others have chosen to receive their salary in the project’s ILV token rather than the USDC stablecoin. It makes an allusion to letting people leave as part of a “leaner” strategy, but not directly states this is the case.
In the answers, Illuvium Community Manager DickKingz, also known as Rich, explained that the team is now down to 66 key contributors—down from between 100 to 150 persons as of late.
” The trim to 66 was unfortunately a lot of my teammates and friends, and]I ] hate to see them go”, Rich said. ” Doubtless it’s just farewell for now, and in the upcoming when things improve, we may take some back”.
Illuvium did not immediately respond to ‘s request for comment.
As a result of the restructuring, as well as some other operating cost cutting measures, Illuvium has gotten closer to its “burn rate” goal of$ 500, 000—it was at$ 900, 000 as of December. This gives the Illuvium brand a 24-month airport to keep developing, which is now available.
Recently, Warwick explained that Illuvium planned to find new revenue around March. But in the midst of the reform, he confirmed that the company isn’t looking to raise “right then” . ,
Prior to that, he had already laid out a strategy for the brand. Instead of focusing on the three game it was developing, the co-founder suggested redesigning Overworld to be a more refined version of a massively multiplayer online activity, or MMO, and reducing in-game payments.  ,
It appears that the 24 month-runway will get the job to the point of completing its auto-battler, starting the overhaul of Overworld, and attempting to keep the area engaged, according to the restructuring speech.
” This is step one in the repair. Now we have the airport, and it will continue to be extended”, Warwick said on X. ” Huge updates are coming mid-next quarter: Car drone runs, online servers, and leaderboards reactivated”.
” 28-3 down with two minutes to go in the third quarter”, he added, comparing the project to a losing team in a football game. ” We’re about to run this garbage back so hard”.
